Foster a Love of Reading

Building Strong Foundations Through Reading Together
At Foundations Christian Montessori Academy, we believe some of the most powerful lessons begin in the quiet moments of a shared story. Whether it’s a bedtime book, a favorite Bible story, or a cozy read-aloud on the couch, reading with your child helps build the kind of foundation that lasts a lifetime.
 The Power of Reading Aloud
Research continues to show that reading to children is one of the most impactful ways to support their growth. When families read together, children develop language, literacy, and listening skills that directly influence academic success — but even more importantly, they grow in connection and confidence.
A 2019 study from Ohio State University found that children who are read to regularly hear over 1.5 million more words by the time they enter kindergarten compared to children who are not read to at all. Those extra words translate into richer vocabulary, stronger comprehension, and an early love for learning that can last a lifetime.
 Growing Minds and Hearts
Reading aloud helps children learn how stories work — how characters think, how problems are solved, and how ideas connect. It builds memory and focus, strengthens critical thinking, and sparks imagination. But beyond the academic benefits, shared reading nurtures empathy, emotional awareness, and security.
When we read with our children, we invite them into new worlds and perspectives while creating precious time together. This routine becomes more than just an activity — it becomes an anchor in your family’s rhythm, a time to slow down, reflect, and grow closer.
A Culture of Reading at Foundations
At FCMA, we’re passionate about fostering lifelong learners and readers. Our classrooms are filled with books that encourage curiosity and discovery, and our teachers model a love for reading every day. Families are encouraged to bring the joy home — to make story time a cherished tradition and a natural extension of the learning that happens here at school.
To help nurture this culture, we also host programs that celebrate reading together as a family, offer book-sharing opportunities through our Lending Library, and provide tips and inspiration for parents to make reading part of everyday life.
Laying the Foundation for Lifelong Learning
Every story read aloud builds more than vocabulary or comprehension — it builds character, connection, and confidence. As a Christian Montessori school, we see reading not only as an academic cornerstone but as a way to help children understand God’s world, His people, and His purpose for them. So, pick up a book, snuggle in close, and discover how reading together can strengthen both hearts and minds. At Foundations, we’re honored to walk alongside families in building these beautiful beginnings — one story at a time.
